2027 Membership and Charter Fees
Effective January 1, 2027, Scouting America will implement adjustments to national membership and unit charter fees.
In a memo from the National Key 3, they acknowledged that the decision was not made lightly, recognizing the financial impact fee increases have on families, volunteers, and local councils. They also pointed to rising operating costs nationwide and the reality that those costs must now be shared across a smaller membership base. National fees have remained unchanged for more than three years.
At the Council level, we have also made adjustments to our membership fees, effective January 1, 2027. We understand that operating a smaller council with a declining membership base has become increasingly challenging. Like organizations across the country, we continue to experience significant increases in the cost of doing business.

High Adventure Opportunity for Jewish Scouts
In 2027, the National Jewish Committee on Scouting is sponsoring a kosher, Shabbat-observant expedition in the Adirondacks in New York. The Adirondacks are where untamed adventure, majestic wilderness, and a true challenge share the same horizon. The Adirondack Region boasts scenic mountains, lakes, valleys, and cliffs across six million protected acres, making it the largest natural area in the U.S. outside Alaska.
The NJCOS High Adventure Committee is planning both a Canoe Trek and a High Peak Backpacking Trek. You can sign up for either or both! Camp Birch Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament
The Camp Birch Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament benefitting Camp Hugh Taylor Birch is December 11, 2026 with check in at 5:30 pm and practice at 6:15 pm at Southwest Bowling Center (826 Scioto St, Urbana, OH 43078). It is a Scotch Doubles 9 Pin No Tap 3 Games Total Score Tournament. $60 entry per team ($13 lineage to bowling alley, $24 to Camp Birch, and $23 to tournament prize fund). Online registration ends December 8. Registration at the door is available (cash or card). 50% of all jackpots to bowlers & 50% to Camp Birch! We will also have side action (cash only) and silent auction and raffle tickets (cash or card)!

College of Commissioner Science
Tecumseh Council is proud to present our College of Commissioners Science on January 9, 2027 at Hawker Church (1617 N Longview St, Beavercreek, OH 45432) from 8 am to 3:30 pm. Cost for Tecumseh Council Adult (with current paid registration in Tecumseh Council) is FREE and Out-of-Council Adult (or guest without registration in Tecumseh Council) is $10 if registered online by December 18, 2026. All registrations after December 18, 2026 have a $10 late fee. The last day to register online is January 3, 2027.
College of Commissioner Science – The purpose of the College of Commissioner Science (CoCS) is to provide supplemental training for all functions of commissioner service. It is recognized that commissioners are key to the continued health and growth of the units in the council. This training offers instruction, guidance and detailed training to aid the commissioners in providing outstanding unit service.
Sycamore District Merit Badge Trail Drive
Sycamore District Merit Badge Trail Drive will be held at Fairborn Middle School—the same location as last year—on February 6, February 20, and March 6, 2027, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Online registration is now open. Registration is free for Tecumseh Council Scouts and $10 for out-of-council Scouts who register by January 15, 2027. After January 15, the cost is $10 for Tecumseh Council Scouts and $20 for out-of-council Scouts. Registration closes January 29, 2027.
SAR High School Eagle Scout Contest

You are invited to participate in the Sons of the American Revolution, George Rogers Clark Chapter, Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program. Applications are due to the local chapter by December 1. Any Eagle Scout, currently registered, who has not turned 19 by December 31, is eligible. The application consists of a two page application form, a four generation ancestor chart, and a 500 word essay with a patriotic theme. Specific requirements can be obtained from the link above. Please note that specific merit badges, American Heritage, Genealogy, and Law earn scoring points in judging. They are not required to enter, but do impact final score in competition. All participants will receive a patch, chapter winners receive cash award and medal. Chapter winners advance to State completion, and State winner advances to National competition. State winners receive a trophy and cash award. National First Place winner – $10,000.00; Runner-up – $6,000.00; 2nd runner-up – $4,000.00. You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $10,000.00 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.
Award Nominations
Silver Beaver and Outstanding Youth of the Year Award Nominations are due to the Council Office by November 30, 2026. Award recipients will be celebrated at our Council Annual Dinner on Saturday, January 30, 2027.Click the title of this article for full details and nomination forms.
Horsemanship Merit Badge
Horsemanship Merit Badge for Scouts BSA is Saturday, November 14 from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm at Marmon Valley Farm (7754 State Route 292 S, Zanesfield OH 43360). Cost is $75 per Scout. Additional trail rides are available for $36. Register online by October 12. Scouts should pack a lunch. Wear long jeans or pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes & weather appropriate clothing. A parent must attend with Scout to sign a waiver.

Merit Badge Counselors Need for Sycamore District MBTD
It is time again to prepare for the Sycamore District Merit Badge Trail Drive. The dates are February 6 , 20 and March 6, 2027. To make it successful, we need the talent of our merit badge counselors. We have several confirmed but are still looking for counselors for: American Heritage, Communications, Chemistry, Personal Management, Electricity, Photography, Model Design and Building and Space Exploration.
If you are not currently a registered counselor, we can help you to get registered and ready to help Scouts learn and earn a merit badge.

Scouts BSA Fall Camporee
Scouts BSA Troops – Join us at Camp Birch for our Scouts BSA Fall Camporee “Back to Basics” on November 6-8, 2026 at Camp Birch! Check in is Friday from 6 to 8 pm and check out is Sunday by 10 am.
Patrols will compete in a “Back to Basics” camping competition that will include activities such as: Patrol Breakfast Cooking Challenge; Campsite Inspection; Pioneering; Service Project; & Leave No Trace.
Cost if registered online by October 25: Tecumseh Council Scout = FREE; Tecumseh Council Adult = FREE; Out-of-Council Scout = $15; Out-of-Council Adult = $10. There is a $10 for ALL registrations after October 25. The last day to register is November 4.
