Time

  • Morning Session from 9 am to noon (75 max participants)
  • Afternoon Session from 1 to 4 pm (75 max participants)

Online Registration

Online registration is now required for this event. Select Morning Session and/or Afternoon Session during registration process. One ammo ticket can be purchased during registration process. 

Cost

Each session is $5 per shooter and includes access to all three Ranges. 

More ammo tickets will be available to purchase on day-of-event with cash or check ONLY (no credit cards).

  • Ammo Ticket Cost:
    • Shotgun – $5 (12 shots of 20 gauge)
    • Rifle – $5 (25 shots of .22LR AMMO per shooter or distributed among several shooters in the same unit in 1 sitting). This amount of ammo can be shot in 20-25 minutes.
    • Muzzle Loader – $5 (5 shots) – Requires a NRA-NMLRA Muzzle Loader instructor (staffed as needed)
    • Archery – FREE

NO REFUNDS on lost or unused ammo tickets or wrist bands. Ammo tickets are presented to each NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO). Ammo purchased at the Range MUST be used at the range.

Cost Example

Scout A purchases a MORNING Session Wrist Band and wants to shoot only archery = total cost is $5 for Wrist Band.

Scouts B purchases an AFTERNOON Session Wrist Band and shoots #25 shots of .22 Rifle, and #12 shots of Shotgun, and spends the rest of the day on the Archery Range = $5 (22LR #25 shots) + $5 (Shotgun #12 shots) + $5 (Range Band) = total cost is $15.

Other Information

  • Online registration required. 
  • A parent or leader must accompany each youth.
  • Troop MUST provide a roster of all youth shooters attending AND the Unit permission slip signed by the parent/guardian permitting Rifle, Shotgun and Archery activity to be collected at the Range BEFORE being issued Range access. Any non-shooters or without a permission slip will be spectators.
  • Bring your own “ok to start” Blue Card if working on completing the Rifle, Shotgun or Archery Merit Badge.
  • If attending as a Unit, please bring a roster of participants.
  • Group size can be the entire Unit or  Patrol, or just individual Scouts looking for open shooting or Merit Badge qualifications (bring your signed Blue Card).
  • Open to registered Camp Birch weekend campers or day of walk ins.
  • Archery, Shotgun, and Rifle Ranges will be staffed with NRA Certified Instructors/RSOs/USAA Archery Instructors.
  • All participants will receive a basic safety range briefing.
  • 20 Minute rotation at Archery and Rifle Range (or as needed).
  • Range Capacity (per rotation): Archery 8, Rifle 8, Shotgun 1.
  • Shot count will be recorded.
  • NO PERSONAL AMMUNITION OR FIREARMS, BOWS, ARROWS ARE PERMITTED.
  • Shotgun Clays are always limited, so units may provide their own.
  • If you are not a registered weekend camper, please stop by the Camp Office to check in before walking back to the Ranges to participate so they know you are in camp. This includes ALL non-shooters accompanying shooters.
  • All instructors are BSA Archery/Rifle/Shotgun Merit Badges Counselors. Scouts must present Blue Cards and let the Instructor know you need an appropriate target for recording purposes (Shooting Qualifier Rifle). Special bulls-eye targets can be brought to the range. If Scout is just starting the Merit Badge process, the full requirements of the Merit Badge will not be able to be completed in one day.
  • Weather Cancellation policy: if temps are < 40 degrees or heavy rain/thunderstorms
  • Ammo can be DONATED to Council for use for the event on the range – Please alert DG Adams dg98adams@yahoo.com 937-206-1799 so arrangements can be made BEFORE the event to receive the ammo.
    • Donated ammo will need to be in the original box, in usable condition, and please write the unit# and purchase date on the box.
    • Unused donated ammo WILL NOT be returned.
    • Rifle Ammo must be 22LR 40 grain, or Shotgun Ammo must be 20-gauge trap (no reloads).

Cowboy Action Shooting – Fridays during Summer Camp 

Cowboy Action includes –

  • two Shotgun shells at Clay targets
  • Six 22LR shots with a Lever Action Rifle at a resetting STEEL target
  • And twelve 22LR shots from a single shot revolver pistol at STEEL targets.

* Recognition – Bandanna (and eventually “Deputy Patches when available”)

  • Age Requirement for CowBoy Action:
  • Scouts BSA and Venture  Scouts who are over the age of 14, or are 13 and have completed the eighth grade, may participate in this activity.
  • All youth participants are required to have written permission from their parent or guardian before they can take part in the program. We will have blank forms at the Range.
