Silver Beaver and Outstanding Youth of the Year Award Nominations are due to the Council Office by November 30, 2026. Award recipients will be celebrated at our Council Annual Dinner on Saturday, January 30, 2027.

Silver Beaver Nominations

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest distinguished service recognition a Council can bestow upon an adult volunteer. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made a significant impact on the lives of youth through service given within the Tecumseh Council. The Silver Beaver is an award bestowed on those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2026 class of Silver Beaver recipients. Nominations should be made on the official Silver Beaver Nomination Form (available above) and may contain additional letters of support included with the submitted nomination. Nomination forms must be completed with as much detail as possible to provide the selection committee with a clear justification for the selection of the candidate for this recognition.

Nominations are due by November 30, 2026, and should be sent to rob.lavoie@scouting.org.

Outstanding Youth of the Year Nominations

Outstanding Youth of the Year Award Nominations are due to the Council Office by November 30, 2026 or they can be submitted to rob.lavoie@scouting.org. Each unit should nominate a youth member for consideration. Youth recipients receive a $100 scholarship from the Council.

Horsemanship Merit Badge

Horsemanship Merit Badge for Scouts BSA is Saturday, November 14 from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm at Marmon Valley Farm (7754 State Route 292 S, Zanesfield OH 43360). Cost is $75 per Scout. Additional trail rides are available for $36. Register online by October 12. Scouts should pack a lunch. Wear long jeans or pants, sturdy closed-toe shoes & weather appropriate clothing. A parent must attend with Scout to sign a waiver.

Merit Badge Counselors Need for Sycamore District MBTD

It is time again to prepare for the Sycamore District Merit Badge Trail Drive. The dates are February 6 , 20 and March 6, 2027.  To make it successful, we need the talent of our merit badge counselors.  We have several confirmed but are still looking for counselors for:  American Heritage, Communications, Chemistry, Personal Management, Electricity, Photography,  Model Design and Building and Space Exploration.

If you are not currently a registered counselor, we can help you to get registered and ready to help Scouts learn and earn a merit badge.

Scouts BSA Fall Camporee

Scouts BSA Troops – Join us at Camp Birch for our Scouts BSA Fall Camporee “Back to Basics” on November 6-8, 2026 at Camp Birch! Check in is Friday from 6 to 8 pm and check out is Sunday by 10 am.

Patrols will compete in a “Back to Basics” camping competition that will include activities such as:

  • Patrol Breakfast Cooking Challenge
  • Campsite Inspection
  • Pioneering
  • Service Project
  • Leave No Trace

Registration & Cost

If registered online by October 25:

  • Tecumseh Council Scout = FREE
  • Tecumseh Council Adult = FREE
  • Out-of-Council Scout = $15
  • Out-of-Council Adult = $10

If registered after October 25:

  • Tecumseh Council Scout = $10
  • Tecumseh Council Adult = $10
  • Out-of-Council Scout = $25
  • Out-of-Council Adult = $20

Registration closes November 4.

  • 8:30 pm – Leader Meeting & Cracker Barrel (Adult Leaders + Senior Patrol Leaders)

Saturday

  • 7 am – Judge’s Meeting.
  • 7:30 am – Breakfast judges begin campsite inspectionsarrive at patrol campsites.
  • 8 am – Patrol Breakfast Cooking Challenge meals served
  • 9 am to noon – Campsite Pioneering Project Construction
  • Noon – lunch and gadget inspection
  • 1 to 4 pm –Service Project with Restore & Explore
  • 7 pm – Campfire and Awards Ceremony

We know that every family’s budget is different, and this new option helps remove one more barrier for youth who want to experience the adventure, leadership, and lifelong memories that Scouting provides.

How It Works

Joining Scouting is still quick and easy:

  1. Visit www.BeAScout.org and complete your child’s online membership application.
  2. Proceed to the payment screen and select Klarna as your payment method.
  3. Choose the payment plan that best fits your family’s budget.
  4. Complete your secure checkout through Klarna. Once your first payment is made and your payment schedule is confirmed, your Scout’s registration is instantly completed.

Flexible Payment Choices

Klarna offers several convenient payment options:

  • Pay in 4 – Divide your registration fee into four equal payments made every two weeks, often interest-free.
  • Pay in 30 Days – Register today and pay the balance within 30 days.
  • Monthly Financing – Spread payments over a longer period. Interest may apply depending on the financing option selected.

These flexible choices allow families to start their Scouting adventure immediately while selecting a payment schedule that works best for their household.

Important Information

When creating a Klarna account, please note that some payment methods are not accepted, including certain credit cards such as American Express, Chase, and Capital One, as well as prepaid cards. Families should have an eligible payment method available during checkout.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

IOLS will be offered Friday, November 6 with check in at 5:30 pm and program start at 6 pm to Saturday, November 7 at 5 pm at the Camp Birch Training Lodge (in conjunction with the Fall Camporee). Cost is FREE for adults WITH a current paid registration in Tecumseh Council, cost is $40 for adults WITHOUT a current paid registration in Tecumseh Council (or out-of-council). There is a $10 late fee if not registered by October 30 (applies to both in and out-of-council). Contact Steve Carroll with questions at steve.carroll@sbcglobal.net.

WHAT IS IOLS? Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) is training that provides Scouts BSA leaders with basic skills and information to run a successful outdoor program.

REGISTRATION: Register online. Bring a friend! Your Scouting experience will be easier if you can collaborate with others in your unit. We need at least 5 participants to preregister for this training to happen.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? BSA requires you have at least one IOLS trained adult on every Scout overnight event. IOLS is required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be position trained.

IMPORTANT NOTE! To achieve IOLS trained status, participants must attend all IOLS training sessions, so you will not be able to participate in Camporee events with your Troop and also complete IOLS.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU BRING? Cracker barrel on Friday & breakfast and lunch on Saturday are provided. Participants should eat before they arrive on Friday. Everyone is required to bring a completed BSA Annual Medical Form, parts A&B. Participants will be camping Friday night. Bring appropriate camping gear and clothing. Be prepared for November weather. Dress in layers and bring rain protection.
